In our hectic current times, not only life has changed, but the way we teach has suffered severe modifications that we need to keep up with. Brain breaks: why, where and how! The human brain cannot pay sustained, external attention for a long period of time. Besides this type of attention consumes lots of energy! In order to make the learning brain compatible then, we must alternate instruction with brain pauses or breaks that will restore energy supplies. In this active workshop we will experience a variety of brain breaks to achieve different objectives: as recapping tools, to calm down our nervous system or to activate it, to have fun and boost cognitive performance.
This scenario demands strategies that initial teacher training scarcely provides. In this context, it is necessary to provide in-service teachers with opportunities that may allow them to be better prepared to deal effectively with the increasingly complex classroom situations they are experiencing. The presentation that follows intends firstly to help teachers understand that disruptive behaviour is almost always rooted in learners’ unsatisfied emotional needs; secondly to identify those emotional needs underlying disruptive behaviour and thirdly to become acquainted with appropriate and possible strategies to effectively address this significant challenge.

We get our writing style from reading, but writing itself can help you solve problems and make you smarter. We now know how to do this, thanks to scholars who have explained the strategies that make up the “composing process.” The core strategy is revision, realizing that as you go from draft to draft you come up with new and better ideas. As Peter Elbow states it, “meaning is not what you start out with but what you end up with.” And Neil Simon: “mediocre writers write, good writers rewrite.”
